1. Information we collect
### a. In the Extension
Local storage: PartScout stores some information on your device in the browser’s extension storage—for example, your recent part number, cached comparison results (for a short time), and which retailer sites you have turned on or off. This stays on your device unless you clear extension data or uninstall PartScout.
Page content on sites you allow: When you grant access, the Extension may read information from supported retailer pages to find part numbers, run searches, and show comparison results. We design PartScout to focus on that shopping task, not to collect unrelated browsing.
b. On our servers (analytics)
We send usage events to our own service to understand how PartScout is used and to improve it. Depending on the action, an event may include things like:
- Extension version and browser type
- Lifecycle events (for example, when the Extension is installed or updated)
- Search queries you enter in PartScout and whether the search was manual
- When you follow a comparison result, we may log the link, part number, and price shown
- Simple UI actions (for example, opening settings or certain options-page links)
We use this to improve functionality and reliability—not to sell personal information as our business model.
2. How we use the information
We use the information we collect to:
- Provide comparison features and remember your preferences
- Improve PartScout’s performance and fix issues
- Understand usage patterns in aggregate
3. Data sharing
We do not sell your personal information. We may share data with service providers who help us host our API, website, or analytics, and they may process data on our behalf under appropriate terms.
Third-party retailers you visit have their own privacy practices when you use their sites.
4. Your choices
You can:
- Turn off individual retailers in PartScout settings to limit where the Extension runs
- Remove or reset the Extension using your browser’s extension controls
- Contact us (below) to ask about access, deletion, or other rights available where you live
